Third-grader, Paul Vincent Leandrei L. Navarro outwitted student math wizards from over 10 countries and grabbed the Bronze Award in the recently concluded 14th World Cup of the World Math-Fusion Olympiad held at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, last August 10-12.
The competition, hosted by the WMO Organizing Committee was attended by nearly 200 students from China, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The goals of the WMO competition are to promote international exchange among mathematically gifted students, to establish a math-based innovative education paradigm, and to cultivate future convergent leaders with the ability to view learning and the world from novel perspectives by stimulating their curiosity and spirit of inquiry. The World Math-Fusion Olympiad (WMO) is a global Math competition attended by multinational elementary and middle school students who enjoy Math. Closely related to real-life experiences and connected with science, technology, engineering and art, WMO breaks the traditional format of math competitions by challenging contestants to apply creative and integrated methods to solve problems that focus on border-crossing thinking through interesting and entertaining activities in a festive atmosphere.
