Stonyhurst Southville International School prides itself in implementing the Interdisciplinary/Integrated Curriculum Approach through the S.P.E.L.L.S., G.I.D.E.S. and R.I.C.H. – which usually focus on application of skills and knowledge they possess which can be combined to finish a task, discover a situation or explain a situation. Thus, last August 26, 2016, students have applied all their learnings during the term through fun activities prepared by their teachers; and they have definitely enjoyed every inch of it!

SPELLS (Strategic Program for Emergent Literacy through Learning Shops) for ECED

SPELLS is a highly enriched program for ECED that uses the interdisciplinary approach in presenting subject areas. It makes it possible for children to discover and appreciate the relevance of learning content to real life through actual observation, exploration and experimentation. Highly stimulating and organized learning shops provide more room for individual uniqueness thus bringing to life the child’s miniature world in the classroom.

GIDES (Giftedness through Interdisciplinary Educational Strategies) for Grade School

GIDES is an educational strategy empowering students to be active participants in their own learning. GIDES is an innovative approach in presenting a subject of study by using Common Themes Webbing and interrelating the different subject areas such that the students see the relevance of the learning content to real life and undergo learning process which foster permanent learning or enduring learning.

RICH (Relevant Integrated Curriculum for High School) for High School

RICH has the same principles as SPELLS and GIDES in terms of relevant integration of lessons in various subject areas whenever possible in the High School curriculum. The emphases of integration on the following areas are: (1) Skills in language – listening, speaking, reading, and writing; (2) Across subject areas – Science or SLGE concepts are used as springboards for grammar lessons; and (3) Concept and theme integration – Value of the Month to serve as guide for interdisciplinary activities or project

The SPELLS, GIDES, and RICH happens per term and the next one will be on December 12, 2016 for the 2nd Term and March 15, 2016 for the 3rd Term. Quant Je Puis!
